6 month old with no poo for 5 days PLUS possible milk allergy - advice needed!

Just started weaning my DS and he now hasn't pooed since Monday morning. Is this okay? He's as happy as Larry apart from a streaming nose which I think is allergy-related, and shows no signs of pain. How long should I leave it before getting worried?

Also does anyone have experience of an infant witha milk allergy? Mine seems to develop cold symptoms (streaming, stuffy nose, raspy cough when he has cow's milk and now I'm suspicious that it's not a cold at all. Both my DH and me have probs with milk which is why I'm suspicious! Any advice or info much appreciated.

Seem to remember that this happened with DD when we started weaning. I did a little very gentle tummy massage to help things along. Also bending knees gently up to tummy whilst your DS is lying on his back. Be warned as when things do start to move it can be quite spectacular. We had a 15 minute poo one day, everytime I lifted her legs up, more - like a sausage factory (sorry tmi I know ). We just used to use wipes like a catchers mit iyswim.

Things did settle down after a few weeks.

Hahahahaha! Your posting really made me giggle. Yes, I've heard about (and experienced) the spectacular poos, though not seen one yet from solids. I hope my DH is on nappy duty when the time comes. Or maybe we should just sit the little bean in his bumbo seat when it all happens, and clean it out afterwards. 15 minute poo! Wow. That's very impressive.

My dd did this last week - 6 mos and 1st week of solids. She went 4 days, I was terrified about what would happen!

Promised myself I'd take her to the docs if nothng by day 5. I would not let it go past 6 days for your own peace of mind.

I tried to cut down on the solids, and only give puree no finger food. I also tried to get her to bf as often as possible.

I massaged her tummy gently and a few warm baths. The first poss was v. painful (tho' not incredibly hard, it was def more solid than the bf poos have been, more like an adult poo). Poor thing screamed and cried, but was fine after it came out. I pressed v gently on her perineum to help push it out, but you have to be very careful and gentle. She grunted nearly the whole day before it arrived!

The next lot of poos were much more mushy - thanks to the puree and bf I think. I guess they need to take it slowly, and really thin purees for the first few bowel movements, as those muscles have never really had to work before.

Sorry, should read the first 'poo' was very painful!
