End of Steroids and Weight Loss?

I have been on prednisolone for nearly 8 years now (scleroderma) and was extremely ill for the first few years. At that time I was on 50mg for much of the time, although the Drs tried to reduce the dose I kept having relapses.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, I have been on 4mg for quite some time. At my appt yesterday they have told me that everything is stable and I can be weaned off them altogether, 1mg a month.
I have long fantasised that once I get off them I will lose weight as I definitely put weight on as a result of taking them. I also have "moon face", small cataracts and a couple of weird finger nails (sounds lovely ) Although I've been on a low dose my instinct is that this has maintained those side effects that I got from the high dose. Does this make any sense? Does anyone have experience of stopping taking pred and what might happen?

my sister used to take prednisalone, she had cystic fibrosis and then had a heart/lung transplant. After the transplant she was on an extremely high dose and ballooned. As the steroids were gradually reduced (but never stopped completely) she did return to a normal weight but then she went the other way and went too thin, but thats another story. Dont know if this helps or not!

my friend took steroids for asthma - i would suspect prednisolone or something similar, put on weight, then managed to lose it once she was off the steroids. Think it did require some effort tho as to healthy eating/exercise - didn't, regrettably, just drop off with stopping the steroids.

I have been on steroids for years(2 Kidney transplants)In between I was on dialysis and took no steroids and the weight fell off.I am now on 5 mg a day and will be reducing those soon but didn't lose weight with reduction of prednisolone only stopping it so you will probably lose weight right a t the end Also all other weird skin tags etc disappear really fastHTH

A friend's dd took high dose steroids (60mg+ for colitis) for a long time. She was only 11 when she started on them and there were concerns that they would stunt her growth, plus she ballooned up (and got bullied about it at school) but they really had no choice in the matter. After a big op she gradually reduced the steroids, grew to 5ft 8in and is wonderously slim so for her it ended well.

Davros -- I took prednisolone (70 mg) for several years. I don't want to bore the world with the details, but I'll send you a CAT in case you want my email address.
