Possible fractured coccyx

Hi, two weeks ago I had a nasty fall. I landed straight on my bottom. It really hurt and my right buttock was covered in bruises. Since then, I have had pain deep within the middle of my bottom, presumably my coccyx, which is worse after physical exertion, particularly bending down, like gardening. I saw a GP today. He asked me questions and examined me, whereby he pressed along my spine, asking whether it hurt. He never actually looked at my bottom. He concluded that I might have a chipped coccyx bone, but said there was little value in having an x-ray and that the best thing to do was keep active and he precribed me codeine for the pain. I'm concerned that this is all he said. I'm in a lot of pain and I have to keep active as I'm a single mum to a 3 year old and am worried in case I should have been referred for further tests. Is there anyone who has any advice on this? I'm thinking of going to my local minor injuries unit and asking if they can give me an x-ray. It really hurts at the moment, after doing more gardening. It feels like a burning pain deep within the centre of my bottom. Thank you.

They don't usually x-ray as they don't tend to treat it and the risk of radiation outweighs the benefit. At least that is what I was told nearly 4 years ago. 6 months to be able to sit down normally. Even now it still hurts sometimes. Sorry.FlowersWine

I slipped down stairs when I was 16 and snapped the end of my coccyx off, didn't feel it until I was lying on belly infront of tv and then suddenly couldn't move. Twenty minutes later was carted off to hospital in a spinal board and collar and xrayed/MRi etc.

If it's impeding movement and ability to sit down then you need to nip to doctor or minor injuries and get it checked - some now ultrasound your ass and will refer you elsewhere if any major concerns.

Ibuprofen is your friend as well as a rubber ring.

I've done this falling down a flight of stairs. There is no treatment apart from time and painkillers. I had to kneel at my desk for a good few weeks.

Yep, relative did it falling down the stairs. Painkillers and sitting in a rubber ring were prescribed.
