Bladder weakness help

I have never really had a real problem with wetting myself when I sneeze or cough, but about 6 weeks ago I wet myself a little bit when I was walking back from a night out. I was desperate for the loo and was laughing so just put it down to that. Then the same thing happened again 2 weeks ago, needed the toilet and whilst walking same thing happened. I was going to start doing some pelvic floor exercises but didn’t get round to it.
Then today at work, I needed the toilet and again a little bit of wee came out. I was/am mortified.
It’s as if my bladder can’t hold things in when I am on the move and need to go. Has only happened while I have been walking and on my way to the toilet so far.
Is this stress incontinence? I don’t know what to do. Do I start doing the exercises and see if things improve? Or go to the doctors first. I’m quite horrified and embarrassed.

Blood might indicate your kidneys were affected but you haven't mentioned backache so they're probably fine. Even if they were, it wouldn't mean they were actually damaged.

sockportal · 11/08/2018 10:38

I went to see the pelvic floor physio yesterday. She identified an area of weakness but not a prolapse in my front vaginal wall, right next to the urethra. This explains my symptoms, she had given me some exercises to help me.

Olivesandwine · 11/08/2018 10:52

I’m about the same tbh. Just starting day 4 of the antibiotics and not sure if they are doing anything. Its weird because my symptoms seem to get worse as the day goes on.

I also think I’m making things worse by being anxious and hyper focused on the feeling of needing to wee and also measuring what’s coming out for my charts is not helping. Not sure if I’m supposed to be holding on as long as possible or just wee when I feel the need.

I’m really not worried this is anything serious, just worried that it will never end.

That’s good sockportal. At least you have a reason and you can now work on sorting it out.

Anxiety can definitely make the symptoms work. I've been reading about how to lessen the symptoms. One way is neutralise the acid in your bladder, so no tomatoes or citrus fruits, instead have blueberry or pear juice.

The other alternative is to have a class of water with a teaspoon of bicarbonate soda in it. It's rank though!

Olivesandwine · 11/08/2018 11:28

I'm supposed to drink a lot of water too but are you supposed to just sip it throughout the day? Or drink a whole glass. If I drink a 300ml glass of water all at once im lucky if I last an hour before needing to go.

I don’t know but if you are drinking lots of water then obviously you are going to be going to the toilet more often.

Olivesandwine · 12/08/2018 16:34

Don't know what's going on. I felt quite good yesterday but today feel like I need the toilet again all the time. Its got to be psychological Sad

I know all about anxiety making things worse Olives. Been there on many occasions.
You could always ring the gp’s tomorrow and explain that your symptoms are not better and ask if you could drop another sample in for testing. If not, I note you have another appointment booked as well so can you wait until then? I know uti’s can be rotten but what is it exactly you are worrying about if you don’t mind me asking?

Olivesandwine · 12/08/2018 20:32

Yes thanks Itsonly. That’s an idea.
I’ve been on my own all weekend and have been consulting Dr Google too much and scaring myself into thinking it might be ovarian cancer. I do jump to the worst conclusions, even though I don’t feel unwell, no pain or anything, just want to pee all the time. But that is one of the main flags :(
Bloody anxiety.

Yes try and keep away from Dr Google. You will only find things to fuel your anxiety and keep the unwanted thoughts in circulation. Must admit I'm guilty of it Blush

Olivesandwine · 14/08/2018 13:52

I was toying with the idea of getting some urine dipsticks just to do my own test, then I can see if I need to get in touch with docs. Or maybe I'll just wait till next week.

OP posts:
Itsonly5oclock · 14/08/2018 19:37

I would gives docs a ring tbh.

Olivesandwine · 14/08/2018 19:45

Yes I’m going to ring tomorrow and see if I can drop a sample in. Either I still have an infection and need more antibiotics or there is something else going on. I’m worse today again, feel like I need to wee all the time :(
Sorry I’m being a proper wimp.

Are you still on your original antibiotics? Unless the GP sent off a culture to check what specific bacteria is causing your UTI they could easily be the wrong ones, so I really think Dr Google is barking up the wrong tree! Good plan to drop a sample in, and good luck.

Olivesandwine · 15/08/2018 03:48

I finished the original antibiotics a few days ago, and apart from some respite on Saturday, I’m now back to how I was feeling before and maybe worse. Shall be ringing the docs in the morning.

OP posts:
Verbena87 · 15/08/2018 07:51

Definitely see a doctor and explain that. Good luck.

Olivesandwine · 15/08/2018 07:59

Thanks Verbena. I’ll update (if anyone is interested).

OP posts:
Verbena87 · 15/08/2018 09:02

Definitely let us know how you get on. Really hope stuff gets sorted.

Olivesandwine · 15/08/2018 14:22

Well the dip test at the docs was clear so it won’t be sent off for testing so no further forward. Will have to wait till next week for my pelvic exam :(

OP posts:
Verbena87 · 15/08/2018 15:02

Oh how annoying - but good you have your exam booked already. Fingers crossed that’ll get things resolved; it is miserable.

Toofle · 15/08/2018 20:55

Have you had a referral to a consultant yet? Sorry, I've got muddled between a couple of threads.

Olivesandwine · 16/08/2018 21:37

No. Just back to docs next week.

OP posts:
Toofle · 16/08/2018 22:00

You need some real help. This isn't right.

cestlavielife · 16/08/2018 22:04
