I am keen to get back into donating blood after having DD (now 10mths) but a friend seems to think i should wait as i had a c-section. Does anyone know the guidelines? I couldn't find anything out on their website.
Thanks

You cant give blood for one year following a birth of any kind as far as I am aware fee77.

Ringing them is best, I wasn't allowed until I finished breastfeeding and had to have all my immunoglobins and levels tested first too...

ps that was 16 mths, and was still not blood healthy enough to donate til 18 mths after birth!

Have a look here. It goes through a list of questions to see if you are eligible to donate.

I donated when ds2 was 9 months old and still breastfeeding. They had just reduced the time from 1 year after birth to 9 months and I don't recall whether you had a c-section or not coming into it.

Let us know how you get on.

I have just phoned the donor help line, and you can give blood 9 months after birth, whether it was natural or c-section. If you needed a blood transfusion you would possibly have to wait a year.
So i am off to do it friday - i hope they have some nice biscuits in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
