herpes virus could ds have got it from friend?

Ds 2 and a half has a friend we were playing with about 12 days ago [they were playing a recorder and passing it between each other covered in spit obviously] Friend has now come down with blisters all over mouth and throat - mum didn't say but I'm thinking it must be a primary herpes outbreak. Just wondering if anyone knows the transmission procedure, ie, could ds's friend have been harbouring the virus when ds was sharing his recorder? And is there a incubation period beyond which ds will definitely not have it? bit worried.

i'm not sure about the hepes but are you sure its not impetigo? don't know if it goes in their throat though

she said it was a virus related to chicken pox virus so i can only think it is a primary cold sore outbreak. poor boy had vicious blisters over lips tongue and throat and they took him to hospital.

there are quite a few herpes strands, one which you can only get in the first 6 month of life, chicken pox is also a herpes virus.

aw bless, hopefully someone with a bit more knowledge should be along shortly, i don't suppose there's much you will be able to do, hopefully your dc will not have caught it

he has also been exposed to chickenpox last week so i really hope he only has to cope with one thing at a time. And we are supposed to be going on holiday next week - something tells me we are going to have to cancel...

yes just did thanks spacepuppy. it is just that i have also read that the virus sheds and is present in saliva when the virus in inactive.

I guess you will have to wait this one out, he has been exposed, you can only confirm if you ask the mum. Are you sure it is not chicken pox?

Also consider hand foot & mouth - this is also doing the rounds - involves blisters in mouth etc

The early symptoms of hand, foot and mouth disease are fever, loss of appetite, sore throat, and generally feeling unwell. The younger the child, the worse the symptoms.
After 12-36 hours, yellowy-red ulcers develop in the mouth, around the roof of the mouth, tongue and inside of the cheeks. Because they are sore and uncomfortable, the child may not want to eat.
Within about a day, sores develop on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, between the fingers and toes, and on the buttocks (in some people). They last for about 3-6 days and may be a bit itchy and uncomfortable. They are smaller than chicken pox sores.

Apparently not chickenpox spacepuppy i did ask the mum. My ds was exposed to chicken pox from another friend last week who has now come down with it this week.
I did wonder about hand and foot but they had ds's friend checked by a registrar at the hospital who i assume would have know what it was. I don't know anything about being exposed to herpes simplex and herpes zoster at the same time so hope ds is ok. He has just got over a long fluey bug with a fever every night for a week and now i'm dreading the next onslaught...
