Hi,

Any advice really, she has touched a Cactus plant at my Mums and has been stung on the ball of the hand (by the thumb).

There are quite a few fine thorns still stuck in her and she will not let me near them.

Have had her hand soaking in a bowl of warm/hot salty water and have managed to apply germolene.

Has any one got any suggestions? Should I let her go to bed with them in hoping they'll fall out in the night or am I being hopeful and naiive?

Any thoughts...............?
Thanks

You need to pin her down and get them out. They won't fall out I don't think. Sorry.

yes you have to get them out, otherwise they could go further in. If she really won't co-operate, get someone to hold her down and use tweezers. Maybe give her something as a distraction, a sweet or something? Ot put on her favourite DVD?

Stay relaxed yourself otherwise she will react to your stress.

It's probably a good idea to disinfect the wound afterwards.

Thanks for your replies.

She's in bed now, have really tried with the tweezers but can't get her to stay still and calm enough - she screams the house down when I go near her with them.

I have read that maybe I could smother them with glue and then peel it back off once dried. I may try that later whilst she's asleep.

Or if not, maybe I'll go along to the non-emergency clinic tomorrow and see if they would remove them, the thorns are so tiny I'm not sure I'd get all of them anyway.

If anyone has any further suggestions please post, thanks.

my ds did this too- got them out with tweezers - had to hold his hand up to the light - the needles were so tiny.

tigi, did he sit still whilst you did it?

Just pasted glue over DD's hand whilst she's sleeping, hoping she keeps her hand still and that I don't go back up to find it streaked through her hair!

sorry, been off watching that zimmers documentary on bbc2 for the last hourr.. Yes, he moaned like hell, but I told him it would be far worse if he touched something while they were all sticking out! It was at my nans house, think he was 3 years old then. was able to grab a lot between my fingers . I remember there were dozens of them!
