Possible broken finger?

So on a bouncy castle on Saturday afternoon my daughter (10) hurt her finger and came off crying saying she thinks it is broken.

Anyway we spent the whole day debating weather or not to go to minor injuries. Decided it would be full of drunks from the football and there isn't much to be done, it wasn't overly swollen or anything and I did see her bending it when she wasn't thinking about it (but as soon as it was mentioned or she remembered she then couldn't move it and moaning in pain).

Gave calpol and strapped it to the next finger, seemed ok and she was happy playing. It was my sons birthday so didn't really want to spend it in the hospital.

Today she has been out with her Dad (exH) and he seemed to think we should have got it checked (but didn't bother himself Hmm) and it is now a darker colour than the other fingers so I'm guessing it's bruised? Still sore but again she does move it a bit when distracted.

She is moaning about it a lot. But does have a history of playing on things.

I don't know if I should be getting it checked or if i would be wasting everybody's time?!

Meant to say it's not swollen and no lumps

I personally wouldn't bother with A&E. She's moving it and it's not swollen or disfigured. Keep it strapped to her other finger and splinted if that's more comfortable but other than that it'll heal fine wether broken or sprained.

Is it warm, pink (under the bruising) and can she feel it if you gently scratch the tip, front and back? If yes, then watchful waiting. If no then straight to a doctor.

Keep it iced for 20 min on and 40 mins off, it will really help and give ibuprofen for the pain as it is also anti inflammatory.

My DS broke his little finger when his 'friend' karate kicked him, took him to minor injuries where they did an x ray which confirmed the break, they didn't do anything to the finger at all. Not even strapping. Just advised painkillers and to be careful and it would heal in its own time, which it did.
However if you are worried it would be best to seek medical advice.

Both my dd broke their little fingers (not at the same time) and had to have physio and strapping. Eldest was off sport for 3 months. It is the ligament that is the issue, more than the bone.

Went to minor injuries today. Got it x rayed and it is broken near the knuckle. Got a splint and a sling to bring down the swelling.

Got to go back next week in the hand clinic

Glad you went, not a wasted journey too.
Hope it heals without fuss.
