Cervical ectropion & spotting for a week before period

I recently went to the doctors because I've been spotting for 7-8 days before my period. This has been going on for quite some time.

I had my smear test last year and that came back fine, but when I went to the doctors the other week, she did an internal and said I have cervical ectropion and this could be causing the bleeding, but I never bleed after sex or at any other time other than my period and obviously the spotting leading up to my period. Sex isn't painful either.

She took some swabs and I need to go for a blood test to check my FSH, so I can't go for that until the beginning of my next cycle.

I also got paranoid because I'm a worrier anyway, and I asked her if it was definitely ectropion and not something much worse, like cervical cancer. She said that she'd expect to see my cervix looking at lot worse (she didn't use those words) if it was something more serious, but she did say I'll probably have to have regular smear tests, probably every 6 months, for a while now. I just didn't feel reassured by her though.

So I'm just wondering if any of you have had cervical ectropion and if you had spotting, when did it occur? Did you have random one-off days of spotting or was it like mine, spotting that leads into your period?

I have an ectropian and spot a few days leading up to my period

Not sure why you would have smear tests every 6 months because of it though. It's nothing to do with cervical cancer

Thanks. I may have got that wrong, she might have said I might need it reviewing every 6 months. That kind of worried me, and made me wonder if she's not sure what it is. It was a locum doctor I saw, so I'll probably never see her again. I'm going for my blood test in a few days, so I'll book in with one of the regular doctors there.

I had spotting like this years ago though when we were trying for our first child. It cleared up on its own and then I fell pregnant anyway. My smears are always up to date and ectropion has never been flagged before. So I guess that's got me wondering if maybe I have a hormone problem, maybe low progesterone.

I saw my gp after I had mild spotting mid cycle and she said I had an ectropian. I was due my smear 4 months after this and the nurse confirmed that's what it was. They both said they are very distinctive and my smear was also clear even though I bled during the swab. Mine is very small and I only need to go and ask to get it treated of bleeding becomes worse (it hasn't yet). I also think I have a hormone imbalance I'm trying to lose weight and it's not shifting and I've developed sacroiliac joint pain which I had due to change in hormones during pregnancy so I think it's all related.
