Efudex - any experiences?

I've recently been prescribed efudex for a tiny (about 4mm) patch of sun damage (non cancerous- keritosis I think it's called) on the top of my ear under the fold.
2 weeks in and not much change other than it's got lighter, smaller, dry and sometimes a bit tight feeling. The dr who prescribed said it would go weepy, pus filled, scabby and be highly painful. I did call him and he's suggested twice a day for the next two weeks. I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of this cream on such a tiny area or if the sun damage isn't that bad would the reaction be? Thanks in advance
