Hi all
I breast fed my son (born in April) until 5 weeks. At 8 weeks I got my first postpartum period and honestly, it frightened me so much I called an ambulance and went to hospital. This was on day three. I had a tampon in I'd just changed before bed and a pad like I always do (just incase) I filled it by the time I'd woken up at 4am and my bed sheets were ruined. I had to run to the bathroom to sort myself out but I still TMI left a huge red trail across my hallway. The pain was horrific. I've never had a period like it. It was the equivalent to 5cm contractions for me. I phoned the ambulance and got checked out in gynaecology. No pregnancy left behind and they put it down to a very bad period. They gave me tablets to help stop some of the flow and manage the pain. It didn't work but by that point after waiting ages it stopped a bit. (this was day 3/6.)
So I've come on again today. An it's even worse. Filling two pads and a tampon within 3 hours. I always wear a pad as well and never once filled one before my son while having a tampon in. I change it regularly too. An the pain. Every time I go or I stand up, it basically feels like the head of a baby moving down to be born. It feels like a bowling ball in between my legs and the cramps are worse.
My doctors aren't open as of tomorrow and the hospital will just put it down to a bad period again..

Any advice?

Only advice I can give is that at 8 weeks post i went back on the pill (still bf) and while on the pill I bled every day. Sometimes it was horrific. I stopped the pill and bleeding stopped. My first period after was horrible. I was changing my pad every few hours and had to get extra long ones. 2 periods later and it's gone back to "normal' but I remember the feeling being like a contraction. I am.still bf (11 months) And it seemed to be the pill messing me up.

I thought they left some after birth in me but as it's settled I decided it was just hormones messing me up. I went back to doc and they just said ride it out.

However if it's causing you problems then do see your doc .but try to relax I always found stress made my periods worse

The bowling ball sensation sounds like a prolapse but seems unlikely if you've been checked out by a gynaecologist... definitely see someone about it ASAP though

Call the gynae unit you were seen in. They might just let you go back straight there

Oh I'm sorry - had similar symtoms to you recently (but not related to giving birth) and know what it's like having it come on quickly in huge volumes and splashing around in alarm.

Hope you can get hold of gynae unit and go through what medication you're on and what's happened (and how painful it is for you). I think I still have one little bloodied footprint in the entrance hall, have to squint at it later and evaluate

Given the bleeding and pain, you need to seek medical attention. Can you contact 111 or your local OOH service?
