Mirena Bleeding/tampon - help!

I had it fitted 2 weeks ago. After reading a multitude of awful stories, it went like a dream so I was pleased and relieved. Had some spotting which ended quite quickly, felt a little crampy. On the whole, I was quite pleased and thinking there might finally be better times ahead with all things gyne.

TMI: Then I think my period started a few days earlier. Yesterday was day 3 and I was flooding with big clots. I couldn't leave the house. I'm using two pads at a time, but was told not to wear a tampon until after the 6 week check.

I am starting a new job after being really unwell for the last couple of years (hence coil to help with fatigue that makes me worse from heavy periods). My induction day is Monday. I am absolutely dreading it now - I was bleeding through my clothes yesterday. I had some tranexamic acid from a couple of years ago, rang Dr and they said to take it. It started these yesterday afternoon, but it's still heavy.

I'm not sure what to do on Monday. If I'm going to get through the day, I think I'm going to have to chance a tampon. I really need to go. I want to get off to a good start.

I wondered if anyone had experienced heavy bleeding after a coil fitting?

I also wondered if anyone had used tampons so soon after having one fitted?

Hi I had my first Mirena in 2005 I had heavy period for the next couple months gradually they stopped all I had was breast pain abit moodiness etc

I had my next one removed and another put in a few weeks later as I wasn’t sure if I wanted another but couldn’t deal with a week of bleeding every month so my second was in 2010

With in a month periods disappeared

I had that removed 4 years later to tie for a baby sadly I had hemorghing when I fell pregnant
I miscarried then fell immediately with twins the next month lost one at 2 months pregnant as hemorghing and so had bedrest and then got sepsis and lost baby lily at 5 months pregnant with an intensive Carr stay and 8 blood transfusions

I carried on hemoraghing has a trip to resus in A&E via ambulance
In the end a women doctor told me this can happen that’s why they say no Mirena unless you’ve had children and I had my 3rd Mirena now 3 years
After I had it I had the hemorghing but after that I had light periods for 4 months then no bleeding and I tell you living with hemorghing is awful.

I do keto = very low carb and it triggers a period to do with estogen and fat loss this week I’ve had a very light dark red bleed all week but it’s nithung really.

That’s my Mirena story I’m 49 this year so pregnancy problems probably were age related too.
I love Mirena rarely a pmt stomach ache no bleeding and I’ve has one now 13 years in total and will have to now to stop my hemorghing

Don’t use tampons as infection it’s sweiously dangerous I’d wait 6 months personally

Tampons are not going to help if it's that heavy anyway.

You need norethisterone, which despite saying it doesn't stop bleeding, will stop bleeding. I'm surprised your GP didn't give you a prescription when you spoke to them tbh. Logical and easy solution.

Thanks lofty - tranexamic acid seems to be doing the trick atm, finally slowed this afternoon. Will see what awaits on Tuesday when I stop taking it. It's had norethisterone before on holiday, so that could work for me. I will certainly be back to the GP if the blood-bath kicks in again.

That's what I was concerned about, Lala, so probably best to avoid them. It sounds like you had a really awful time Flowers. I've had my kids and I don't want any more. I would just like to see the back of my periods. I want to stick with Mirena as I've heard good things, just hoping this bleeding stops! I got a month long bleed on low carb - exactly like what you've described - but it did settle down by itself.
