Can I ask about The Pill and Antibiotics - this is not a pregnancy scare question.

Briefly
Am on strong antibiotics, since Monday, in the middle of a pack of pills. I know antibiotics stop the pill being effective in terms of contraception but is that also why I am having a bleed?

I suspect the answer is YES and this is the stupidest question ever but I need some reassurance.

could well be, as if the hormone levels are lower due to the abs, then you could end up with breakthrough bleeding.

I had worked out that my hols in 3 weeks would be period free but now I'm not so sure.

Not sure that the anti biotics would be responsible for the break through bleeding. They do reduce the efficacy of the pill but it is also dependent on which pill your taking. I would just observe if the bleeding is minor spotting wouldn't worry too much but if like a period would seek medical help. Also not all antibiotics interfere with the pill.

It is more like a period and GP did say I would need to take extra precautions for 2 weeks (I was there dying of Pharyngitis so I gave her a face to any thoughts of having sex.)
I am on Dianette - really only take it for my skin and have been on it for about 4 months so I don't know that much about the pill.
Will monitor it and go back to GP if I get worried.
