ds is going to be swabbed to test for german measles - but how is it possible he could have it if he's been vaccinated?

vaccination isn't 100% protection from the disease. Very possible he could have it.

It is quite mild isn't it? hopefully he is not suffering too much.

Not sure about this (so don't quote me) but doesn't the vaccination only covers known versions of the virus? If the virus was to 'mutate' into a previously unknown (or unknown at the time of ds vaccination) strain he would not be covered. Might be talking out of my arse here so like I say don't quote me! Maybe someone with more scientific knowledge can confirm or tell me to stop spouting bulls@@t!!

Like sophable says, just because you have been vaccinated doesn't 100% mean you will never get that disease. You would have to have your blood tested for antibodies post-vaccination to be absolutely sure that you are immune. Do hope he's not feeling too bad.

Haribosmum - depends on the vaccine I think. Some parts of the virus are more conserved than others, so would depend which part of the virus the vaccine is raised too and also mutation rate of virus. Theoretically possible - in practice I have no idea! (am a microbiologist but not expert!).

I had German measles three times - including once after being vaccinated.
