What is this dull ache?

For the last few weeks I've become increasingly conscious of a dull ache/not quite pain on my left side. At first I put it down to a pulled muscle but it's now got to the point where I've made a gp appointment (but of course have to wait a week). Having made the appointment I've now acknowledged to myself that it's something I'm worried about rather than pushing it out of my mind.

I know nobody can diagnose over the internet but ...

It's just underneath the lowest bit of my rib cage on the left hand side.

Very specific location
Feels like a pulled muscle
Doesn't hurt more when I press the area
Fairly constant

Otherwise generally well. Quite tired but have been working long hours.

Sound familiar to anyone?

Is it worse when you lie down?

No. Probably more aware of it when I'm standing up. It comes and goes through the day but I'm sure it's getting worse.

Are you stressed? How is your breathing? Are you taking short breaths?

Constipation? I get this when I’m blocked up. There isn’t much around the left side apart from your colon.

Yes I am stressed, and yes I probably am a bit constipated. I've had an incredibly stressful month or two at work. Stress always makes me feel bloated and uncomfortable but it's always been a general feeling rather than very localised pain/discomfort. My eating and sleeping have been erratic as well and I've probably had more wine than I should have on an evening

Like another poster said, it will be bowel related if on left side.. probably need the loo. Try dulcolax, it’s great for getting things moving again and plenty of water! X

Your stomach is located around there too as it's slightly left of the centre and drops under the ribs there. I get this dull ache as I have gastritis (inflamed stomach lining). I take meds for it now so rarely have it. If it gets worse when your stomach is very empty that could well be it. You could try having Gaviscon three times a day or something like that. Stress can increase the stomach acid. The GP will advise anyway.

Could be constipation, have you tried buscopan?

Buscopan is for easing griping pains in IBS. It won't help with constipation.

No it won’t fix the constipation but it is prescribed to relieve spasms which could be causing the pain alongside a laxative
