Does anyone have any experience of what to expect after a major heart attack?

My father suffered a Cardiac Arrest 3 weeks ago, he had such a severe heart attack that it's amazing and wonderful he is still with us.

It was touch and go for the first week, but he has done incredibly well since.

His heart is badly damaged and he will undergo a bypass in a few months.

What I am more or equally concerned about is that 3 weeks on he is still confused and seems to have limited short term memory. It has improved, but I'm not sure it will ever be what it was and I feel the confusion althouh it will probably improve once he is home won't ever disapear.

So have any of you had experience of this. I just need to know what to expect.

No experience I am afraid, but felt I should lend my support. My dad also suffered a heart attack a few weeks ago, so I know what you are going through. It was such a shock for all of us and although he seems to be doing well, we are still coming to terms with it all. Hope everything goes well for you and your family and everything improves soon. Thinking of you XX

Thankyou for your support Fimbles5 and I am sorry to hear you are also going through this, it is truly awful isn't it. It will change my parents lives forever and I now dread every telephone call.

I too hope all goes well for your dad and send you and your family lots of hugs.

Take care x
