Cervical/ Vaginal swab

I went to my doctor last week as I was spotting for 2 weeks but no proper period and had negative pregnancy tests.

I had a speculum exam and the doctor took two swabs. One was a ‘normal’ swab and for the other when he put the swab in the pot he snapped off the end.

I’ve had a call from reception saying the doctor would like a phone appointment with me next week but that it’s not marked as urgent. At the time I didn’t think to ask exactly what was being tested for. I’m panicking I have an STI but is there anything else they’re likely to have checked for?

Thanks in advance

Sorry, I have no advice but wanted to offer my sympathy as I'm in almost the exact same boat, so I know it's concerning.

Try to take comfort in it not being urgent. I'd have thought any infection would be requiring treatment and thus be urgent. I'm also wondering why they'd need to discuss results if its non urgent.
I hope you get some answers soon.

Thank you ginger

I’ve managed to get a face to face appointment this afternoon so I don’t have to spend the weekend worrying about it.

Sorry to hear you’re in the same boat- I hope your situation is ok/ resolved soon x

Thanks, I'm sure it will be fine. I've got an ultrasound booked for Thursday, the Dr wanted to see me again after to discuss next steps/results, but no appointments for about 3 weeks. I had a letter today asking me to make an appointment regarding swab results, but the appointment I have is fine as its not urgent. So I'm waiting for a month... I figure if its not urgent, then its nothing to worry about. She took normal swabs as well as sti test. If I get myself too worried I'll call again and try to get seen sooner.
