Something really weird happened with ds this morning.

He suddenly started screaming, his eyes went bloodshot and he just kept them shut. After about half an hour he opened them, one eye is still very red but not gunky. Called the dr who came and had already diagnosed conjunctivitus without even seeing him.

I know it isn't that. He screamed alot yesterday and had some really explosive nappies which I put down to teething. He has been asleep for over 2 hours now, which is a sure sign that something isn't right.

He's 6 months. Think I will take him to the paed this afternoon.

I'd take him to the docs, but ds once was only awake for about 4 hours in 36. I took him to the doctor's to get him checked, but there was nothing wrong with him. Better safe than sorry, I always think...

MrsCarrot · 23/05/2007 10:51

could something have got in his eye?

Amapoleon · 23/05/2007 10:53

I don't think he got anything in his eye, I was holding him as it happened but I think that wouldbe more likely than conjunctivitus.

He is also a really active baby, never sits still but when he was awake he was a bit whimpery [sp]

I agree, mine have had conjunc countless times and they've never suddenly screamed like that. I just thought if some grit or a creature had blown in it would have exactly that reaction. Your gp shouldn't have diagnosed over the phone like that if you're worried though, maybe ring the health visitor? Also, I get hayfever and my eyes often sting suddenly and the histamine can make you sleepy. Keep an eye on him and always get a second opinion if you're not happy. Hope they feel better soon.

Thanks, I am getting a bit worried now, he's still asleep.

I am in Spain, so I don't have a health visitor. You just know when something isn't quite right. I'll go to a proper dr later.

Hi , Thanks for asking ds is alot better today after a ropey night. Took him to the dr and she said he probably has a virus [that old chesnut] Anyway she has given me some stuff for his eye and something for his ear.

Oh good, glad he's a bit better. Virus suddenly making his eye sting? Well, as long as he's improving

MummyTL · 24/05/2007 12:11

You say you're in Spain - could a mosquito have bitten him?

Amapoleon · 24/05/2007 12:44

I don't go with the virus either, I think something got in his eye or a mozzie bit like you sugested.
