Sorry if this is garbled, I'm on a lot of painkillers!

Had bladder prolapse repair 4 days ago. Was a bit of a disaster as they stitched through tube that leads from bladder to kidneys and had to have an emergency op next day to release it and put stent in urethra.
Gynae said only had to release one stitch abd tube pinged back up so said repair should still hold.
Just had a gentle feel down there and it feels like it did before! Still a swelling at the opening. Does this mean it's failed?
I don't think I could cope if it's failed after everything that's happened

Totally normal, swelling is likely to last several weeks. Have you been given advice to take things very easy, no lifting anything remotely heavy (literally not much more than a cup of tea) for the first couple of weeks?Flowers

Yeah I have but some things are unavoidable aren't they?
I have been taking it very easy though

It's hard to strike a balance between walking enough and getting enough rest

Plus I cannot poo. It's been 4 days. Necking lactulose but nothing yet. Terrified to even try incase I tear the stitches straining

Stomach is so bloated

What a mess

Being off your feet may delay your bowels for a few days, don't worry too much about that yet, just give it time. And yes, the swelling will take a while to go down and it is essential that you do as little as possible. Trust me - I ripped my stitches and had to be ambulanced back in...!

BeyondSceptical · 17/06/2018 13:19

(note - it wasn't pooing that ripped them!!)

Ickyockycocky · 17/06/2018 13:25

Laxidol is your friend! Make absolutely sure you don’t strain on the toilet. I wish someone had told me!

CurtainsAllowed · 17/06/2018 13:30

Would I know about it if I'd ripped them?

As in, would I be in increased pain?

It was like Carrie - you'd know Grin
They didn't just randomly rip either, so that should reassure you a bit. I'm immunocompromised and should have been given prophylactic ABs, but the hospital insisted there was no need and - big surprise - my stitches got an infection.

I take movicol (laxido) anyway, so might be worth seeing if you can try that if the lactulose isn't working for you? Or have you tried glycerine suppositories?

Oh so there'd be lots of blood? That's one thing I haven't had much of at all, just kind of light pink discharge so I guess that's a good sign?

I'm second guessing every bloody symptom, but as I had 2 surgeries within 12 hours I guess there's more symptoms than usual

So sorry to hear you had a bad time with yours.Flowers

This really is so much worse than I anticipated. There's the pain from the prolapse repair, the stent is causing me pain with cystitis symptoms and constantly needing the loo and now I cant poo! It's agony!

Oh yeah, and they removed some skin tags around my perineum and tidied things up a bit so that's sore too

Sorry for whinging. I'm feeling really sorry got myself and the drugs are making me overshare somewhat!

It's okay, you're allowed to complain, having surgery is tough Flowers

Are you home now or still in? If you're home, do you have a number you can call? Don't be afraid to let the HCPs know if you're having problems, they can help xx

CurtainsAllowed · 17/06/2018 14:09

I'm home now. To be honest I'm not sure there's much they can do, I guess it's just the healing process isn't it?

The most pain is coming from the not being able to poo if I'm honest! The relief will be incredible when it finally happens Grin
