White coat syndrome

I have a major issue with this. As soon as a professional takes my blood pressure (compared to my best home test) the systolic number can jump up 48 points, the diastolic number may change by 5 or so.

Even compared to my worst home test, the systolic number when taken by a professional jumps by 29 points. I know that the home test isn't as accurate, but these jumps are ridiculous. I am generally a confident, calm person, but if a pro comes at me with a BP monitor I get incredibly anxious. What can I do to try control this?

I know I can definitely live healthier to improve my general reading, but My readings at home would say I'm ok, the readings at the doctors would suggest a significant concern. I also know that 'white coat syndrome' is having a significant impact, and the more it happens the worse it gets...any advice?

Any advice would be extremely helpful, sorry to drip feed but I am currently being refused a medical termination because of this. I am in a lot of turmoil and emotional distress. If I am suffering from hypertension the baby and me are at significant risk! But yet they refuse to assist in termination due to the BP results.

There may be history to this, any medical advisor in the past seemed to treat me with destain and contempt because I had a termination 18 years ago, and we found out my dad had cancer through a BP test (it was too low). So maybe understandable that I freak out at the BO test.

I get the same thing, I test at home with an Omron monitor, same as GP uses so he accepts my readings.
Every time I get BP checked elsewhere such as a hospital it is normal.
I don’t know what to suggest to help you though, sorry!

Can you ask for 24 hour BP monitoring?

Tanfastic · 17/06/2018 20:36

I suffer with this and got a 24 hour monitoring machine for home. Showed when I was pottering around at home it was completely normal.

Thanks for your comments, I am going to call doctors today and ask for this.
