Hi, got bitten by a horsefly on Thursday and since then the swelling is increasing, i’m using an antihistamine cream and tablets plus icing it, any other tips? Can see on the pics where the redness has spread since last night

yes go to a walk in clinic it might be infected (or you could ask a pharmacist)

Happygolucky009 · 16/06/2018 08:34

Not a doctor but got bitten nastly a couple of weeks ago and spent days getting checked out by gp's , pharmacies ! You need a heavy duty antihistamine 4mg only available at chemists and I also used steroid based cream to reduce swelling.

FaithEverPresent · 16/06/2018 08:36

Not a doctor but a nurse...I agree, I would definitely get that. You’ve done all the right things at home but it’s getting worse. Horse fly bites are notorious for getting infected. Do you have a walk-in centre nearby? Or call 111 to see if they can get you seen OOH?

Foodylicious · 16/06/2018 08:37

Given that its already spread over the border of your pen marks, it's clearly getting worse not better.
You may been strong antihistamines, steroids or antibiotics or all 3!
Definitely go to a walk in centre today

Thanks very much everyone. I’ll try a pharmacy as our walk in merged with a&e and don’t want to take up a slot there if i can help it,
Nasty bloody flies Angry

I didn't find pharmacy that helpful tbh, they urged me to go to a&e baring in mind I had been to walk in centre twice. Go directly to walk in / a&e

SodTheGreenfly · 16/06/2018 08:46

I had similar a month ir so ago. The nurse oractitioner gave me ABS because the redness had reached half way to my knee. She said if it got worse overnight to go straight to A&E because it would need IV ABs and advised me to get two in before bed (it was 7ish). It started to recede after the 4th dose.

Think yours needs an eye kept and if worse by lunchtime I'd go to walk in.

No idea what bit me but there was a prick of blood and there were two holes but no blister so nurse didn't think spider abd I guess a horsefly hurts.

ineedwine99 · 16/06/2018 08:51

Horsefly did hurt, felt a sharpe cut then saw it and swatted it off, evil things

I needed antibiotics for mine, 2 different types in fact. I would go to the walk in rather than the pharmacy.

WillyWasAWatchdog · 16/06/2018 08:58

Hydrocortisone cream

Walkingthroughawall · 16/06/2018 09:16

See a doctor today (GP/walk-in/ED). Keep the foot elevated in the meantime.

LoniceraJaponica · 16/06/2018 09:19

See someone today
OH developed cellulitis after a bite ended up looking like that. Please don't wait.

welshmist · 16/06/2018 09:25

Don't wait friend wound up with a few days in hospital and a chunk of flesh being removed. Who would have thought it could get this serious
