Hi, went to the GP recently as have most of the symptoms of hypothyroidism and am struggling with day to day life at times because of the symptoms. She took bloods which apparently are normal. I'm going back on Wednesday to talk to her in more detail about the results as she'd said if they were borderline she'd still treat me.
Has anyone else had normal bloods but still been very symptomatic? I am fatigued, my muscles in my legs ache, hair loss and is brittle, dry skin, heartburn, constipation and irritable. Not depressed as have had clinical depression before and know it's not like that.

The thing that is concerning me most is weight gain though. Along with the aching legs. I am active and walk around 30-40 miles per week pushing my 3 year old up some pretty steep and long hills to get his sisters to and from school. My diet hasn't changed, I'm still breastfeeding. There's no reason in my lifestyle for gaining weight.

And then there's the disrupted menstrual cycle, muscle cramps and memory issues. Feel about 90 some days.

Ask for a broader hormone blood test. Did they test your vitamin D levels too as that can affect things.

I wouldn't say that weight gain is your biggest concern, they may think you're exaggerating your other symptoms and think you're looking for a quick weight loss method!

Thyroids can go all over the shop after having had a baby though, it might be a temporary thing.

Sounds like you have a doctor who is willing to listen to you though, so that's a bonus!

You can treat hypothyroidism with diet and supplements- especially if it’s not too bad yet.

Thats what I’ve done. In a very similar situation to you.

Start with going gluten free / dairy free / sugar free. Then find a great nutritionist who can add in specific supplements and help you fine tune your diet.

That’s what I’ve done and I’m so pleased I don’t take medication to control it.

Thanks door. They don't test vit d in my area as most people would be deficient. Previously deficient and so I take prescription strength vit d.
I'm not after a quick weight loss solution at all however the weight gain is affecting me psychologically as I used to have an eating disorder so I find that especially hard to deal with. The aching is affecting my ability to get my children to and from school as is a 5 mile daily trip in total involving some big hills. I don't drive so no other choice than to walk.
I will ask for further bloods and see what happens from there. The GP was really good when I saw her so fingers crossed she doesn't dismiss me.

Ask for a copy of your blood test results, so that you can see what has actually been tested (you are legally entitled to have them). My own bitter experience of being told “normal” on many occasions proved to be anything but. I am hypothyroid myself, and have other auto-immune diseases and health issues.

I am having my bloods tomorrow having been told previously that they were 'normal'.

I am older than you but feel I have lost all my joie de vivre through the constant tiredness and pain.
I gave gave up gluten which has helped with the depression and anxiety (I have stopped taking Medes) and the excessive itching which nearly drove me out of my mind.

My GP has been amazing, listened to my research, asked me to highlight the worse symptoms, agreed to do more in-depth tests for thyroid and sent me to see a specialist in auto immune diseases.

The tiredness is awful isn't it? You have my sympathy, I was the same when my children were young but always told it was normal.

I bought "How Not to Die" and am giving up sugar at the moment, which is hard as I have a sweet tooth. However, I want to fully enjoy my life and there is more to it than eating Snickers!

Well my bloods are all very normal. I've seen their values and they are spot on. GP is asking the lab if they will check vit d in my case as everything else is ok.

Did they test B12, folate, ferritin?

Yep, all spot on.
