Help - feel very very terrible - I accidently cut the top of my DD finger when trimming her nails - 35mins and is still bleeding - A LOT. Am I being over paranoid or is that a long time??? I have been contstantly holding it but can't get it to stop. DH has just taken over and managed to get her to stop screaming. Oh I feel awful - it's her first accident and it was caused by me!!! Is it normal to bleed for that long??

Oh we have all done it dont feel bad Hold a cotton wool ball or something over it and put pressure on it to stop the bleeding. It will stop dont worry.

(unless you have cut the whole top off - It will need replacing!! only joking)

foxinsocks · 21/05/2007 19:27

can you see the wound? is it gaping/deep or do you think you may have cut a bit of the tip off?

have you called NHS direct?

if she really has been bleeding for 35 mins without it slowing down, I'd take her to A&E.

foxinsocks · 21/05/2007 19:28

but also, it probably looks a lot when it isn't because their fingers are so teeny tiny

have you tried to hold the wound closed?

compo · 21/05/2007 19:29

yes, agree, A&E rather than Mumsnet to be honest

LynetteScavo · 21/05/2007 19:31

Don't bother with NHS direct, I doubt they'll be any more use than we are. Go to A&E if it doesn't stop soon, then you know you'll have done the best for her.

LucyLu1981 · 21/05/2007 22:41

thanks everyone - just got back from A&E as we couldn't stop the bleeding - they managed to with a silver (?) solution. Bless her - will def NOT be using nail clippers again!

Poor thing. glad it's sorted.
Thankfully I've not done that yet - but there's still time!

thelittleElf · 21/05/2007 22:47

I know this sounds gross, but i used to bite my charges finger nails when she was asleep, because i didn't like using nail clippers

katwith3kittens · 21/05/2007 22:48

Glad she is OK. You could try a nail file next time.

LucyLu1981 · 21/05/2007 22:49

that's what the hospital recommended Elf, def going to do that from now on!

I'm glad she's ok!

i bite my DD's nails too, nail clippers look like items of torture, and im accident prone enough without giving me implements.
