Very heavy periods

Sorry if TMI.
My periods have been fairly normal, approx every 4 weeks, heavy at first, then tail off a bit. Last about 6 days.

Last month I had 6 week gap, then very heavy. I dismissed it as one of those things. This month I had my usual 4 week gap, but in the first 2-3 days I've been bleeding heavily with clots (needing to change a S+ tampon every hour otherwise it leaks).

I'm in my 40s so it could be the beginning of the menopause I guess, but should I be worried about the amount of bleeding? I will speak to my gp next week, just need reassurance that I don't need to do anything over the weekend.

TIA

I'd speak to the GP.

I have very heavy periods which last 8 days. I take tranexamic acid which helps

That's helpful thanks. I was thinking all they'd be able to offer me was a hysterectomy...

Yeah they'll probably offer transexamic acid 👍🏻

The advent of super monstrous bleeding on day 9 of a particularly long period led to the detection of fibroids in my uterus. Took 2 myomectomies, tranexamic acid, pain killers and finally mirena coil to get a hold on the bleeding.
