Hair loss 8 months post birth

My hair is coming out loads, like a load on the pillow in the morning, hair coming out when I brush it or run my fingers through, clogging up the plug...luckily it’s thick so not noticeable- there are also no patches currently. The doctor said it’s not normally pregnancy related at like 8 months after the birth and more likely to be thyroid related - is this right? I was prewarned about hair loss following having a baby but didn’t expect it this late. My LO is 9months and it’s been going on for about a month.

I have also been diagnosed with an under active thyroid and had the symptoms of an overactive so the dr thinks this is why I’m having the hair loss as the symptoms are now showing themselves (slowly increasing my tablets and showing borderline at the moment so may need to increase but not due to be retested until July... I’m even anxious about this wait in case it gets worse) I’ve started taking multivitamins and iron (dr didn’t advise but I’ve started taking them) .. I’m just so worried and don’t know what to do because if it carries on my hair will be so thin, I also know the more I worry, the worse it will get. Any advice would be appreciated.

Are you or have you been breastfeeding? My hair loss was less noticeable post birth with DC2, who I breast fed. It did drop out more when I stopped feeding.

This happened to me with both DCs. My hairdresser told me it is extremely common.
