Hi has anyone had a para umbilical hernia repair with mesh? I had mine done six weeks ago and am having quite a bit of pain so would be interested to hear of others experiences Smile

I had mine done as an extra during an appendix op. Whilst I was under the anaesthetic the surgeon found & repaired a hernia. I suspect it was because it was a quiet Sunday morning & the consultant had someone there to teach. But I healed well with no complications

Not sure I’m going to be much help, but if it’s any use my dad had a huge abdominal/ umbilical hernia repair using mesh about the same time as you. It has left him with a massive t shaped scar, a wonderfully flat tummy and no belly button. He was in hospital for a week and discharged home with one of the 4 drains inserted during the operation still in place. This was finally taken out just over 2 weeks after the operation.
He has had surprisingly little pain and hasn’t felt the need for any pain relief since about day 3, saying that the whole area just feels uncomfortable and tight rather than painful. As time has gone on this discomfort and tightness has all but disappeared although he is still uncomfortable and aware of the mesh when he gets into bed at nigh.
