food poisoning

I got food poisoning after eating breakfast at a chain hotel. The symptoms exactly match staphylococcus food poisoning. I am fine now. I complained to the hotel chain but they haven't done anything about it so far (2 months) apart from sending me a form to fill in. Just wondered - would you let this go or want something done and what would you see as a good response to this issue? An apology? Money back from the bill? or would you complain to anyone else? Long and short I shat myself in the street (luckily not in a way anyone could actually see!)had severe stomach cramps and had to go back to the hotel and rush to a loo then clean up and change - then go and buy some trousers in a charity shop as I only had a pair of my teen DD's which I couldn't zip up!! It ruined day out with my DS (we were waiting for DD at a college thing so couldn't go home). What would you want done about this? or should I just forget it?

Is staph one of the bugs that environmental health/ public health have to know about? if so you ought to write to them and report it.

I think I'd want refund on the hotel stay & reimbursement for the clothes.
It's an uphill battle to prove they caused it without a culture swab & lab test, though, the same symptoms could have come from an exposure to some other bug 1-5 days before.

You are right. They have just sent a standard letter denying it could be anything to do with them. I am sure it was the breakfast and the coffee machine was broken with funny liquid coming out which I drank some of before I realised. The breakfast was so bad with so many issues that the manager refunded a few people who were there at the same time as us including me and my son. Even before being ill it was really poor!
But I can't prove it so that is it. Will certainly never stay at a premier inn again though.
