Any ideas how to "make" ds pee to get urine sample!

Ds has a suspected urine infection, and at the mo i am sitting with him on my lap with a urine bottle over his willy waiting! I have tried gently tapping his bladder and running a tap, but he's getting bored now!!!
Any ideas? TIA

foxinsocks · 21/05/2007 13:47

how old is he?

have you fed him or given him a big drink?

DarrellRivers · 21/05/2007 13:47

stand in the bath perhaps
and then just wait

DarrellRivers · 21/05/2007 13:47

and enormous drink

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 21/05/2007 13:48

cross posts!
I've got his cup in front of me giving him sips, but he isn't good at taking large amounts at once

cold makes my DS pee

as soon as you decide to remove the bottle he will pee, so take it off his willy and da dah!!!!!!!!!!

cylonbabe · 21/05/2007 13:48

ouch. no ideas,
when ds was 2 days old, i stood over his cot trying to catch the arc/spray in an empty sterile bottle cover.
you could sit him on a potty in front of cbeebies until he does his business and then decant from there?

tinymum · 21/05/2007 13:48

I agree with standing in the bath.

mylittlestar · 21/05/2007 13:51

I'd get ds to have a big drink of water and that usually works... but if you can't...

I'm sure I read ages ago on here about putting a clean flannel in the front inside his nappy, then wring it out into the bottle once he's done...
But that could be a daft idea that I just made up?!

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 21/05/2007 13:51

Thanks ladies, will try cbeebies then the bath! Nightmare!

OP posts:
DarrellRivers · 21/05/2007 13:53

no not the potty and not the flannel.
it must be a clean catch into a steril container or else the sample may get contaminated which gives a confusing result

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 21/05/2007 13:56

just the bath then
poor lad is getting tired now, i'll get him to sleep then wait.....!!!

good luck
if it's any consolation it is easier with a boy
we had to get some from my DD when she was 2.
she loved being told she can wee into the pot in the bath and still views it as a treat

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 21/05/2007 14:02

LOL!
I've put him on the floor for literally 2 secs and guess what, he pee'd

OP posts:
DarrellRivers · 21/05/2007 14:03

ohhh no , did you miss it then?

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 21/05/2007 14:04

yes, i did!!! aaargh!! he pulled the bottle away! As you said though, it's easier with a boy!

OP posts:
mylittlestar · 21/05/2007 14:05

arghhh! typical!

good luck!

AnnabelCaramel · 21/05/2007 14:06

Tell him not to pee.
As soon as you tell boys not to do something they do it. Whatever their age.

mankyscotslass · 21/05/2007 14:17

cold wet wipe on lower tummy.

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 21/05/2007 15:03

WE HAVE WEE
and a whole pot full, i'm so proud!!!!!
Thanks for all your advice ladies, i'll be using it again in 5 days or so when i need to repeat the sample!!

hurrah , what worked in the end?
(have been and cleaned bathrooms since last spoke to you )[guilty emotion]

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 22/05/2007 23:03

So sorry didn't answer DR, in my excitement at finally getting a sample, i got straight in to the car and took it up to the surgery, only to be told the collection had already been made and could i get another one tomorrow !!! I took it up to the hospital myself in the end, poor ds was really tired by the end of it!
In the end, i gave him some milk cos he was getting tired and grumpy and let him sleep for 30 mins with the wee bottle under his willy, when he woke up, hey presto, he pee'd!! bless him, much better today though.
