I'm terrible at treating myself when I'm under the weather.

I've got a 3yo and 6mo to look after and need advice on what to do to make myself function properly again ASAP.

Symptoms

  • headache top of forehead, temples and sinus area
  • watery eye which won't stop Angry
  • light headedness
  • stuffy nose
  • loss of appetite
  • sleepiness and tiredness
  • slightly sore throat and a cough

No temperature.

I've been told vitamin C?

I feel like utterly horrendous.

Help please !

Have you tried paracetamol?

BlankTimes · 06/06/2018 15:07

Multi vitamins and minerals, give them at least 2 months before you decide you don't feel any different.

Fresh air, a little walk with the kids a couple of times a day, even if you don't feel like it at least gets you a change of scene and you're not stuck in looking at the same four walls. Should help with the headache, otherwise when kids are asleep do a steam inhalation to clear your sinuses.

Good quality food, fresh and light, little and often, not comfort food which is so easy to binge on when you're not feeling great.

Pharmacy in case you have conjunctivitis as you don't want the kids to catch it.

There's no magic cure but just doing a few little things differently can make a difference. Flowers

Sounds like hay fever maybe?

goldangel · 06/06/2018 16:10

I was going to say hayfever too. I only developed it when I turned 40, spent weeks thinking I had a cold and was run down!

PhilODox · 06/06/2018 16:13

Another one about to say take an antihistamine!
The pollen is v high atm, and even if you haven't had it before, sometimes people develop hay fever layer in life (moving house with new trees/plants nearby can do it)

PhilODox · 06/06/2018 16:14

Meant to day-to-day DD gets headaches with her hay fever, and I hadn't even realised that was a symptom because I don't.

Bowlofbabelfish · 06/06/2018 16:15

Hay fever? Pollen levels are exceptionally high at the moment and even people who dont normally get it can suffer.

Try washing your face with cool water, gently washing the inside of your nose, then taking an antihistamine. It might take a few days to kick in.

Thank you for all the replies.

Hayfever is ruled out considering I spent the night tossing and turning and sweating like mad, (not to mention looking after EBF baby) was also woken up at 2am by the worst earache.
I feel weak and if I do too much at a time I get all wobbly. Didn't eat last night and still no appetite.

I put some balled up cotton wool in my ear as that seems to stop it from hurting as much when I cough or sneeze.

Got a full day with a worker in the house a 3yo and 6mo Sad

Still don't think hayfever is ruled out.

Seeline · 07/06/2018 09:15

Sounds like hay fever or some sort of allergy to me too.

Or a sinus infection?

How long has this been going on for?

NomsQualityStreets · 07/06/2018 09:36

Does hayfever make you shivery and sweaty? It's been going on since Tuesday night but has gotten worse last night. The earache was going from my ear all the way down my jaw I could feel my nerves pulling.

I'm dreaming of my bed but I know I won't get much sleep there either thanks to DS2.
