Worried about my contraception

So my son is 6 months and I had my coil put in 5 months ago, I bled non stop for 2 months and then stopped completely, the last week and a half I’ve had random spotting, one day I’ll gave none, the next day I’ll have a bit, then enough to need a pad then just more normal spotting. I’ve had awful cramps the last 2ish weeks. So bad I have to stop what I’m doing sometimes (if I even slightly tense any muscles around my abdomen and pelvic area it’s really painful) I checked to see if I could feel the strings because a chunk of string came out in some tissue when I wiped! And I couldn’t find them. I’m going to see my doctor on Monday because I can’t feel the strings but has anyone else had something like this happen to them?

I think the coil can take around a year to settle down and for your body to get used to it.
The strings may have gone elsewhere. What did the Dr say?
I had a copper coil but took it out after 4 months due to a funny smell, cramps and spotting.
