Colonoscopy Monday

I am feeling extremely nervous, colonoscopy on Monday. I have some type of colitis and am quite inflamed I am having the sedation which is a conscious sedation. I am hoping it won't hurt on the inflamed areas. Was supposed to have colonoscopy 3 weeks ago but did all bowel prep waited 5 hours at hospital and cancelled it. Since then my cramps and pain have become a lot worse and need to get this sorted.

Bowel prep is worse than the colonoscopy. Honestly! Even if they're taking biopsies, you can't feel them snipping anything. The only discomfort I had was them struggling to get the camera round a particular kink in my gut. I was conscious enough to tell them it hurt and they gave me gas and air, but unconscious enough to not remember the finer undignified details!

The super sexy mesh medical pants with the hole in the bum were def the best part...Hmm

Good luck

Yes I echo what Sar says above. I’ve had UC since I was 14 (so for nearly 25 years now) and the thing I dread most is the bowel prep. The scopes are actually fine. It’s not exactly pleasant but you won’t feel much. And really, you want to get whatever it is sorted ASAP so the relief once you know and can start treating is immense. Good luck.

I had a colonoscopy last year and quite frankly I was terrified. I told the hospital I was nervous and they gave me a good dose of the sedation. I remember lying there watching the room spin thinking I hadn’t felt like this since Friday nights out 30 years ago. That’s about all I remember it seemed very quick and they did take a biopsy but didnt feel any pain. Looking back I really don’t remember much about it, I really enjoyed the tea and biscuits after.

Just doing the bowel prep now. Just need to get it over with and get some treatment. As well as my bowel being inflamed, my chest, throat and stomach feel inflamed too.

The bowel prep was the worst. The scope with sedation is really not to bad. Hope all goes ok for you tomorrow and you get the treatment you need and start to feel better. X

Thinking of you today, hope everything is going well. Good luck xx

Had it and am home. Was terrified walking down to theatre and seeing people all in the blue coats. But once I got on with it it wasn't as bad as I expected. The whole procedure took an hour but they were longer as I am getting a diagnosis. They reckon it is ulcerative colitis but have to wait for biopsy results in 2 weeks. They also found 2 polyps. Annoying thing is still can't have any treatment yet Thanks for your help and I know next time round it won't be as daunting. Xxx

I’m glad it wasn’t as bad as you’d feared. I hope you get some answers quickly. If it does turn out to be UC, you might find Crohn’s & Colitis UK a useful source of support and info. I know I found the predecessor (NACC) a help when I was first diagnosed as a 14y/o. Good luck
