What does it feel and look like?

I have a lump but one GP thinks it's a hernia and another doesn't so I thought I'd ask around

TIA

Katy You need a decent GP. No one can be sure by what you have said.Hernias are usually the lower abdomen and the groin area.

KatyMac · 02/06/2018 17:22

I know and it will be investigated
I was looking for comparative experiences as I can't get an answer straight away

I have no pain on coughing or lifting so I'm leaning towards a fatty lump

But if someone else had one I could compare

If it disappears/can be pushed back in then it's a hernia

MrsCD67 · 02/06/2018 17:25

When I had a hernia, it would appear/disappear at different times of the day depending on what I was doing. Sometimes if it was there and I pressed hard enough, it would disappear although the skin was still a tad more raised than the other side

Thanks can I ask how big was it and how did it appear?

mine was around 3cm long and it seemed really big to me! It appeared one day out of the blue and I ignored it for about a year and it didn't disappear. Should've had it checked earlier of course because I had no clue what it was but luckily it was just a hernia!

MrsCD67 · 02/06/2018 17:34

My doctor actually said to me 'you must be really sporty because lots of athletes get hernias' and believe me, I am the least sporty person in the world so I have no clue how it happened 😂

KatyMac · 02/06/2018 17:35

Mines bigger than my hand shaped like a mango

Sound quite different I think

I don't think people get random fatty lumps on their middles like the sort you mean. Have you explored google images for pics of hernias?

KatyMac · 02/06/2018 17:39

Hadn't thought of that - those pics look quite solid

Mine is quite wibbly almost fluid filled if you know what I mean

Mmm it could still be a hernia because they can be huge!

KatyMac · 02/06/2018 17:40

I mean I'll wait for my scan but I'm thinking not a hernia

Having taken my own advice and googled there is something called an epigastric hernia which is just off centre and above the waist. Can you push yours back?

KatyMac · 02/06/2018 17:59

It's lower than the pictures of that and more right

Sort of diagonally from the side of my ribs towards my belly button
