Extreme hair thinning

My hair has been gradually thinning over the past 3/6 months, mostly on the top of my head. I’ve had my bloods checked and apart from a vitamin d deficiency, which I am now taking supplements for, they are all normal and the GP is not forthcoming with any advice. Has anyone had similar or can offer any advice on where to go from here? I am 28 and generally in good health. My hair is colours but by no means over processed and my hairdresser says my hair overall is in very good condition.

Oh my gosh my hair is thinning exactly the same and I am 28, after a million blood tests the only thing for me is vitamin D deficiency too! But mine has been thinning for years, but this was my first ever vitamin D test so maybe it's linked? Or not. My GP years ago said 'its just one of those things' (not the best thing to hear). My hair is completely unprocessed and I don't think hair dye would cause scalp thinning, just broken hair.

I would also be interested to hear what Mumnetters have to say

Are you under a lot of pressure at the moment? Stress?

Usernom1234567890 · 30/05/2018 22:41

When you say bloods are normal, do you know which have been done?
Have you had Iron stores bloods ie ferritin levels or just an FBC full blood count? I think I am right in saying ferritin needs to be 70+ for new hair growth.
Also, Thyroid Function - has this been done and what level is your TSH & T4?
If you've had a comprehensive set of bloods and they're all within normal range-it may be worth asking for a dermatologist referral as you're only 28.

Have a look at Lucinda Ellery. She is phenomenal!

Whoops posted too soon. She’s a hair loss specialist and can help with how to cover thin/bald patches.

Thanks all!

To answer some of the questions I am not particularly stressed at the moment.

I did have my FBC/vit d/iron/thyroid/folate/b12 checked.

All within normal range with the exception of Vit D (17) which I am now supplementing.
Thyroid results were: TSH 2.95 / FT4 13.8 / T3 5.3
Iron results were: Ferritin 132 / iron 17.6
