Getting the Coil Fitted

My girlfriend and I are trying to get a coil fitted and are trying to look into going private, but we can’t find information on cost or time it takes for the whole process. Can anybody help?

If you are in the UK just make an appointment at your local family planning clinic free and confidential.

How long does this process take, and does my girlfriend need to be registered to a local GP for this? She’s coming here to study, as she is from France.

No she doesn’t need to be registered with a gp, most family planning clinics have open drop in clinics where you just turn up and wait for a consultation or you can ring for a bookable appointment, just go online a look up your nearest clinic and it should tell you their appointment arrangements, having said this she should really register with a gp when she arrives, is there a reason why she can’t get one fitted in France?

My girlfriend will register with a GP, but we have a special day planned and a registration and waiting list of weeks have potentially derailed those plans. The reason it can’t be fitted in France is parental pressures.

Thank you for the advice. Smile

Family Planning Clinics are the best places to go. I went to my own GP/Nurse and they recommended there as they do it far more often than them. Just google NHS England/Wales to search by post code for your nearest one.

Re your "special day planned". There's a high chance she'll bleed for some weeks after the coil is fitted

Just use a condom if you want a quickie as part of your ‘special day’ (🤮) as soon as she steps off the Eurostar.

But yes she will likely be seen quicker at a family planning clinic rather than at the GP.
