Swollen arm after preschool booster

Awaiting gp call back as we speak, but maybe someone else has experienced this?

While ds1 was in the bath I noticed his arm is swollen red and hot. He hasn't complained about it, and says it doesn't hurt, but it's twice the size of his other arm!

Oh dear

dd had a small red patch on her leg last week from a jab, but no swelling. poor ds.

princessmel · 19/05/2007 19:06

Have you given him anything for it? Like an anti inflammatory(sp)

colditz · 19/05/2007 19:08

No, he's got mild asthma so I only give ibuprofen if calpol isn't working to bring down a dangerously high temp.

yes, email me at [email protected] and i will attempt to show you a piccy of dd2s arm, she had an infection of the arm

princessmel · 19/05/2007 19:11

Same as ds then. But last time ds was ill with a temp I mentioned not giving ibuprofen and they said actually it should be fine.
Is it lumpy? The arm I mean.

colditz · 19/05/2007 19:20

not lumpy, but very hot and he keeps scratching it.

Now ive read the thread it did spread down to her elbow and under her arm and it looked like she had elephantitus.

colditz · 19/05/2007 22:42

Got Nurofen, got Piriton, ds was treated (yes I know, not a treat, blah blah) to a 'Magic Donalds' and thrilled at the Drive-Through (never been before), and I finally tumbled the sickeningly energetic child into bed 20 minutes ago!

OP posts:
colditz · 19/05/2007 22:42

Apparently was just a very veyr strong reaction to the jab.

Ds had a really swollen arm after his, it was the tetanus bit apparently. Nurse has now said to be watchful if req in the future, dosed him with calpol and piriton. It was red and swollen for about 10 days

charliecat · 20/05/2007 09:14

HOWS THINGS TODAY?

colditz · 21/05/2007 19:20

It's gone down totally now, thank for asking.

foxinsocks · 21/05/2007 19:23

that pre school booster has tetanus in doesn't it? that really hurts your arm - owww. When I had it done, my arm went red and ACHED for days so I'm not surprised it affects children too!

foxinsocks · 21/05/2007 19:24

oh, sorry colditz. The site was going a bit slow and I didn't see your post - glad he is better!
