Do I need to visit a GP before returning to work?

Hoping someone can help me. I have been off work for 7 days now, but I am now starting to feel better and was hoping to return tomorrow. I am aware I need a sick line from my GP, but as it was a bank holiday I couldn’t go today. Am I allowed to return without the sick line and phone my Gp practise and ask them to provide one which I can pick up in a few days or do I need this before returning?

For up to 7 days, you do NOT need to see a GP, you should complete a self-certification.

Surely as today was my 7th day off, I would still have to produce the sick line from my GP?

No it’s 7 days inclusive, you don’t need a sick note.

7 days is fine if you are going back. It's over 7 it kicks in where I work.
I think you'll be ok

If you rang in sick last Tuesday, and today is the seventh day sick, and you are back tomorrow, that is only seven days sick. So a self-cert will do. Unless you are contractually obliged to produce one for a lesser period for company sick pay
