Tesco's own blacurrant throat sweets (cant remember proper name) 98p a pack, were voted better than crappy strepsils etc.

Gargle with soluble aspirin or paracetamol
Merocaine/Dequacaine throat lozenges
Covonia throat spray -makes you gag first time but has an antiseptic and anaesthetic effect

Poor you, I've had a run of really bad ones recently and throat pain is nasty. Best things I found were: gargling with soluble aspirin (make sure you do it for a few minutes) - this one works really well before a meal, as it dulls/numbs pain for at least half an hour if not more.

Also, a spoonful of Manuka honey: I was sceptical (advice from MN couple of weeks ago) but it really, really helped. I had the +10 sort. Repeat as often as you like, the more the better (unless diabetic, I imagine).

Hot lemon, ginger, and honey (with a dash of whiskey if you fancy it/can take it) is soothing and feels nice. Or Lemsip, for that matter.

Sweets and sprays that numb the throat helped me for a few mintues, then made it, if anything, worse - when the effect wore off.

Hope you feel better soon, xx

Difflam Oral Spray/Gargle can be bought from most chemists. It's amazing and just what a Dr would prescribe for sore throats.

high cocoa solids chocolate is good - honestly! I was told by a friend from saudi arabia and it works a treat. Kind of lines your throat.
