Cerazette - three weeks in, bleeding, should I continue?

Prescribed Cerazatte for heavy/painful periods. GP said to stick to it for three months before making any decisions.

Three weeks in and I've been bleeding heavily for a week. Not painful but just grim. I'm losing around 50-60ml a day (Mooncup estimation!).

Should I keep taking it? Is it too early to bail out? I'm feeling panicky about it.

Yes keep taking it. When starting on this pill you will get irregular periods for a while as your body is getting used to the hormone. When I started on it, I nearly gave up as it felt like I was constantly bleeding or spotting, but I'm glad I continued as my periods eventually just stopped Smile This doesn't happen for everyone mind.
Just give it a bit longer OP x

If you're really concerned about the amount on blood you are losing, may be an idea to speak to your doctor.

Whoa! That’s a lot of blood every day. Full moon cup is 15ml. I only empty mine 2x per 24 hrs during my actual (not pill induced) period.

When I was on cerazette I bled (spotting only) for 4 months. I stopped taking it. Am back on a combined pill and it’s brilliant. Very short, super light almost pain free periods. I’m 40 and within acceptable BMI range and a non smoker. GP was happy for me to have it. it’s for contraception though, my periods are pretty unremarkable when not on it.

That's during the day only - at night I'm up 4 or 5 times cleaning up and waking everybody.... Hmm

I'm struggling to see it as a "period" because for me that's just two days of pain and passing clots. This is just tedious pointless bleeding.

gp said not to worry about bleeding volume unless I felt faint. Hmm

I'm going to have to work from home while this is continuing though. It's really messy.

It’s not a period though is it? Oh and my relatively light spotting was enough to leave me slightly anaemic. So I wouldn’t put up with this for too much longer.

I had an awful time with cerazette. It made my periods really heavy and irregular. I’ve been fine on every other pill I’ve tried

userabcname · 28/05/2018 10:55

I would go back to your GP. I took cerazette a few years ago and bled the entire time. It was awful. I stopped and went onto the injection which stopped my periods entirely.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 28/05/2018 10:56

Cerazette isn’t for everyone. It’s unreasonable to expect someone to bleed that much every day. Irregular bleeding isn’t the same as daily heavy bleeding. For some the bleeding stops but for others it causes a permanent period!

I bled for 3 months and then it stopped

I'm sure it's not for everyone but I have been taking it for 3 years, I bled off/on for the first 9 weeks and then it stopped. I get a "period" maybe once every 3 or 4 months which is a day or two of spotting, and then disappears again. I would try and hold out before deciding whether to quit.
