Mooncup Problem: Have I got no pelvic floor?

Just got my mooncup in for the first time. Was so excited and looking forward to this but its all turning a bit sour.

First of all trimming the stem. I trimmed it and still felt it and trimmed it and still felt it then cut the whole thing off but the edge still felt so rough it was like having a cheesegrater down there. Another pair of scissors and careful trimming right to the base of the cup seems to have stopped this now but I'm still having problems with fit.

When I first put it in I went up to a friends for coffee. I could still feel it so nipped up to her loo to try again. This time I twisted it round to try to get a better fit. However half an hour later it felt like it was falling out again so I dashed back to the loo and somehow it had twisted right round so was upsidedown!!!!

Overnight not too bad. But very full this morning and a bit of leakage but I expected that at first. However I've had to put it back in about 4 times so far today. It just seems to keep working its way down. I can feel it at the entrance and if I put my hand flat across myself I can feel it protrding slightly. Thats not right is it? All the time it feels like its going to fall out. I've tried shoving it right up and twisting it to get the suction. (rather alarming the way everything seems to disappear in there - obviously plenty of room these days.

Anyway I just can't seem to get it to fit properly (yes it is a size A). I'm starting to wonder if my pelvic floor is shot and there is nothing to hold it in place. Last night I lay in bed for hours doing pelvic floor exercises. Its just not comfortable and it leaks so its obviously not right. I was really looking forward to being "liberated" but I daren't walk today. Any suggestions?

I found mine a bit uncomfortable the first two months, but not really any problem with it twisting or slipping, and only sometimes uncomfortable when i run with it in. Maybe just need time to get used to it? btw I just got one of those pelvic toners, its really making a difference (gotta use it often though). Sorry not much help

I think you need to talk to your GP. Mine has a habit of slipping if it's not in the right place at first though.

whomovedmychocolate · 19/05/2007 13:41

I think the term is 'pelvic basement'

Seriously, sorry you are going through this but it might be worth going to see the GP in case you have a prolapsed fanjo (it can happen after childbirth). Can be easily fixed though.

crumbs - my youngest is 3.5 though. Thought I would have noticed a prolapse by now!

Can't help smiling at the thought of my poor docs face when he says "so whats the problem?" and I say "Well my mooncup keeps slipping....."

Will see how I get on tomorrow and maybe think about going if I still can't get it right.

Sorry to seem dim but what's a mooncup?

Monkeytrousers · 20/05/2007 11:14

mooncups

With these you get less of those jam rags clogging up your gills Seamonster.

When you first put it in, is there suction? If you try to pull it gently out, does it stay kind of gripped inside you, or is it very loose?

I think either you are not getting a proper seal (make sure the mooncup is fully unfolded, by running your finger all around the egde once it is in position), or that yes, your pelvic floor needs some work. It doesn't necessarily mean that you have a prolapse or anything, just that you need to do pelvic floor exercises to regain a decent tone. Do you have any problems with leaking urine at all? If you try to stop urine mid flow are you able to, or is this impossible / very hard?

If the problem is your pelvic floor then you can fix this within a few months of doing exercises correctly. If you think insertion might be a problem then have a look on the mooncup site or ask for more directions on here and we will try to help out.

Monkeytrousers · 20/05/2007 11:38

Hi Franny, have just emailed you on india addy

FrannyandZooey · 20/05/2007 11:39

oh ok I will check it later

allmytimeonmumsnet · 20/05/2007 13:01

Thanks. I think I am getting suction OK. When I go to remove it I get a definite squelch like something is releasing (!). However I got that a couple of times when I was bending over too. Will try the mid-stream urine halt next time but I do think it is my muscles that are probably the problem. Crumbs!

I have got round the feeling that its going to fall out now. I think that is just a mental thing but it does seem to sit really really low however high I shove it and because of that its a bit uncomfortable. I can only liken it to not putting a tampon in far enough but its years and years since I've done that so might not be a good comparison. However I can feel it constantly and although there is absolutly no stalk at all now it feel like there is something hard . I have presisted this morning but have given up for now as I've been in such a bad mood all weekend because of this.

So I will try some pelvic floor exercises and see if I can get any improvement in where it sits. Its just srustrating as I've got no problem getting it in it just doesn't seem to want to stay where I want it to stay.

allmytime - I know exactly what you mean, but having only been using it for a few months it has already got better, honest.
