Norovirus or Rotavirus but why me?

So DS4 moved back in when he separated and his two lovely daughters stay over alternate weekends. DGD1 is 6 and I caught Norovirus from her years ago when I looked after her as a baby. Since then I have been paranoid about catching it because it’s fucking nasty and it floored me. DS5 has ASD and I felt so awful I couldn’t look after him. I digress. DGD2 is 4 and started throwing up shortly before bed on Friday. I proceeded to manically clean everything she went near, especially the next day because I was still telling myself it was her tonsil condition the night before. She is scheduled for a tonsillectomy in a few months because they’re enlarged and she gets tonsillitis quite a lot, it affects her speech etc. But she didn’t seem that ill, apart from being sick and diarrhoea she wasn’t distressed maybe a bit quiet and she fell asleep for a while so DS4 took the other DGD out for a while. When DGD2 woke up she had an accident shortly after getting up so I donned some latex gloves and washed her down, rinsed the clothes in the bathroom sink and stuck them in the washing machine. By now I knew it must be a virus without going into detail. I continued to be vigilant with bleach, antibacterial wipes, washed my hands every half hour. FF to 10am this morning, DGD2 is completely recovered and the three of them go off with some friends for the day. I hadn’t felt like breakfast but got some for DS5 and that was when it started. I felt like the only person who felt worse than the Liverpool goalie! So had a horrendous day, couldn’t even keep water down for about six hours, and the symptoms aggravated my PFD and got bladder pain too. Now I can finally drink fluids I am slowly getting there, no food yet. But why, out of the other four people in the house (including elderly father) am I the only one who catches everything?? And how can I stop? I did everything possible to prevent it spreading except to myself! Next time one of those gorgeous girls throws up DD5 and I will be off to Travelodge,

You poor thing. I believe it can be airborne if you are in the line of fire. Hope you feel better soon x

Absolutely nothing useful to add, and no reason why you - other than horribly bad luck. I hope you feel better soon.

It spreads further and wider than you can imagine. You think you are cleaning thoroughly, but you aren't cleaning anywhere near as thoroughly as you'd need to to eradicate the risk of passing it on completely. At the hospital, they deep clean with bleach, then tape up the room with a machine inside, to pump in Hydrogen Peroxide Vapour gas for 3-4 hours to eradicate what hasn't been caught by the deep clean.

You can do what you can to keep clean, avoid close reach contact during vomiting spells, etc., but it's just an occupational hazard of parenting that you'll be exposed to what they get.
