What can cause sudden, severe hunger?

For the past 10 days-ish I have been absolutely starving all day and evening, and eating MUCH more than I would normally eat.

I had a UTI at the beginning of that period, so thought maybe it was my body being a bit depleted and craving more food.

But Ive had antibiotics and the UTI has cleared up. I feel OK. But the uncontrollable hunger just isnt subsiding. Its really odd for me, as I usually 'eat to live' rather than 'live to eat'

Ive scared myself googling, as diabetes is the main thing that comes up. I'm not overweight, lead a reasonably healthy lifestyle, no diabetes in my family - and blood tests I had 3 months ago were normal.

What could it be? Its the severity of the hunger and craving for big meals and carbs that is unlike me and just all a bit odd.

Pregnancy?!

OutsSelf · 22/05/2018 18:46

Tapeworm? More gross but less of a long term worry than diabetes..

PotatoesPastaAndBread · 22/05/2018 18:47

I agree with pinky - is there any chance you're pregnant?

DuchyDuke · 22/05/2018 18:48

Pcos, diabetes, overactive thyroid, Pregnancy, brain tumours, all impact appetite. Only way to know for sure is to get off MN and get to a GP Hmm

OhDearMavis · 22/05/2018 18:48

Prior weight loss?

OhCheersForThat · 22/05/2018 18:48

Oh GOD...tapeworm? How would I have got that? That sounds truly grim.

My period isn't due until the weekend, so not much point POAS, but its pretty unlikely I think. I'm 41...I hope not! Shock.

Are you drinking enough fluids? I'm not sure about severe hunger but sometimes when you are thirsty your body tricks you into thinking it's hungry.

Thanks, Duchy. I have an appointment booked for next week Grin
