What’s wrong with my foot?

A couple of months ago, I fell at work. My foot went underneath me, and at the time, I thought I’d sprained my ankle.
I drove home that same day ok, and elevated my foot when I got home.
Anyway it ached, but as I could drive, thought there couldn’t be much damage to it.

But time has gone on. And it still aches. It’s stiff first thing in the morning, feels heavy(?), and I’m limping by the end of the day.

The top of the foot feels sore, like a band across it, and it looks like any swelling that occurred on the day never quite went back to normal.

The manager thought the same as me at the time, might just be my ankle, but when I mentioned it since, she took a look at it and said she couldn’t see anything else wrong.

But I’m still limping, and it still hurts.

Any idea what I’ve done to it giving my description?
Would it be an idea to see my GP, to ask for an X-ray, or is that asking too much? Please, any help would be appreciated, as I’m on my feet all day 💐

TBH it's a bit late for an x ray of it happened a couple of months ago I think. (No medic!). You may need physio maybe. Soft tissue damage can take time to heal. I broke my ankle and ruptured ligaments. The ligaments were the worst pain ever and took longer to heal!

SolarSearcher · 15/05/2018 20:19

Thanks @Wolfie, I was just thinking it might be too late for an X-ray to be honest, and I don’t want to waste the GP’s time either.

I’ll look into soft tissue damage a bit more, thanks. At least I have some idea what’s wrong.

Worth getting it looked at. Maybe not an x Ray. But you may need strengthening exercises for instance. Did you RICE it at the time? Does it get better or worse with stretching or rest?

frenchie12 · 15/05/2018 21:26

Google Extensor Tendonitis. DD has it at the moment and it sounds something like yours.

LuluJakey1 · 15/05/2018 21:38

I don't think it is too late for an x-ray. If you broke something and it has healed badly, you need to know that.

SolarSearcher · 15/05/2018 22:29

It goes stiff after a period of rest @Wolfie, not sure about stretching it.

@Lulu, I thought that, but somebody said I wouldn’t have been able to drive home afterwards if that was the case. Maybe I should ring the gp surgery and see what they advise after all.

Thanks @Frenchie, I will Google Extensor tendonitis.

I walked on a broken ankle and drove to work every day for a month. Blush

toughasnails · 15/05/2018 22:41

Definitely not too late for an xray.It would show if there was a fracture.
However as mentioned previously it could be a tendon or ligament problem.
Feet take a long time to heal.
Go to your GP and take it from there.
In the meantime wear supportive footwear, take an anti inflammatory and rest if possible

Justwanttoweeinpeace · 15/05/2018 22:42

Go see the GP and request a referral to a podiatrist.

I did virtually the same thing at around the same thing and it wasn't til I got to the consultant that it could be sorted.

Hope it gets better soon!

SolarSearcher · 16/05/2018 08:21

I’ll give the GP a ring today.

I have some anti inflammatory meds, so I’ll start taking them thanks @tough. I have flat footwear.

Wow@Wolfie, ouch! I drive a round trip of 20 miles a day, so the thought of those miles and it’s a broken ankle....

Thanks@Just. What did they do to sort it?
I honestly wish I’d gone to the GP much sooner.

I walked on and drove with a broken foot for 3 weeks before getting it xrayed. You may have missed a break. I’d get it checked out.

I tore some ligaments in my ankle (well to be specific and gross: they tore away from my ankle bone but didn't tear themselves) last September and to be honest it took at least 6 months before I could walk normally. It's very recently that I've felt like I have close to a normal range of movement. Ankle injuries take forever to heal and I'm expecting mine hasn't gone for good!
