Hi,

Can't find the admission letter with instructions anywhere. Our dd1 normally goes to bed with a cup of water but we don't know whether or not she's allowed to do this. She's being admitted tomorrow morning for a routine gromits operation. Does anybody know????? She's 4.

Yes.

Depends what time her op is, but my 4 year old had to go into the hospital at 1pm, operation ended up being at about 3pm. She was allowed anything to eat and drink until midnight, then clear fluids (water, apple juice, pop, slushies) until noon, then nothing.

Sorry wills haven't got a clue but just wanted to say I hope everything goes ok tomorrow.

Janh · 09/08/2004 23:21

I would think she could have a little drink at bedtime (hasn't she gone yet???) but maybe not keep it with her.

Good luck for tomorrow, wills!

Thanks leander. Am panicking loads despite it being completely "routine". Its for grommits.

Thanks Kateandthegirls! I've just had a blinding row with dh who of course blames me for loosing the paper work but of course did nothing in terms of preparations himself. grrrr1

Hi wills,

I am going in for an op next Week. My letter says i can't eat or drink ANYTHING after 6am. My op is noon- ish.

Don't know if it is any different for kids though.

Sorry crossed post Janh - yes she's "gone" but she has one of those non leak cups in her bed with her.

ds went in a couple weeks ago. He's 18 months and we were told no food after midnight, only sips of water (no downing a pint!) afer four am. He was in theatre by 9.15. We let him take his drinkie cup to bed. We had to wake him in the morning, so were able to make sure he didn't have too much.
Good Luck tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. Gromits in, she's back home. Phew. Not a nice experience but everyone made it as quick and as painless as they could.
