Call back from doctor following pee sample?

So I developed a urine infection a couple weeks back (not peeing after sex is my weakness) and I usually grit my teeth, drink lots and wait for it to pass. But I woke up one morning and it was extremely painful, bad back and all that. Doctor couldn't see me until the following week so I went to the walk in centre, took a pee sample and they gave me some antibiotics. Urine infection gone!

HOWEVER I got a text from my doctor saying to give them a call. My doctor wants a telephone consultation about my urine test (they got sent the results) and now my mind is racing! I contacted them yesterday and he will call me on Monday morning for the "consultation" or whatever they called it.

ANYWAY, any ideas on what this could be on? Are they just following up after my urine infection? Could anything else have cropped up in those results... I told my SO which was a bad bad bad choice as now his mind is racing more than mine!!

Any advice please!

It will probably be just to give you the best antibiotics.

Rainbowtrees · 12/05/2018 12:41

I would assume they have worked out which antibiotics would be best to treat you with now the sample has been cultured.

They already gave me antibiotics at the walk in centre! That was about a week ago :)

Could just be that the sample got contaminated and they need to re test!

Walkingthroughawall · 12/05/2018 12:56

Probably just to make sure you're better after the antibiotics (because if you're not you may need more). Nothing to worry about.

Yes they’ll be trying to optimise the antiB choice against whatever they found in the culture.

(Probably. Don’t panic.)

Dd had something similar. Nurse dip-tested her sample at the GP surgery and it showed positive for an infection, so she was prescribed amoxicillin (IIRC). Sample was nonetheless sent off to be cultured. Over the next few days dd improved, seemed to be getting better with the amoxicillin and loads to drink. Then, like you, she was called back to the GP. Turned out that her infection was amoxicillin-resistant and she needed a different antibiotic. I said that she was much better, with no symptoms, but the GP said it was probably the extra fluid that was helping her, and that the infection would flare up again very quickly if it was not treated with the right ABs, even though she was currently symptom-free.

Thank you so much Jellyslice!! I hope it's the same case!
