Recurring mouth ulcers

Does anyone else suffer?
I have always suffered with ulcers but the last month or so I seem to have a never ending cluster of them! They are not to painful and mostly I forget about them.
Today I went for my routine Dental Appointment and mentioned them-she also had a look.
She has referred me to a Dental Hospital to get them checked out!!
She said the Appointment could take 3 months so not urgent and even said it was entirely up to me whether I wanted to attend.
Despite all this, My Anxiety kicked in and now I am worrying about mouth Cancer!! I stopped smoking 10yrs ago.
I also have IBS which I heard could be llinked in with mouth ulcers so I guess I just want some reassurance if possible that others suffer too and a referral is nothing to worry about.

I read here it's the sodium lauryl sulfate in toothpaste often causes these.

DH tried expensive toothpaste which did work... then went back to good rinse after brushing & the good rinse sorted it. He has very cavity-free teeth anyway, so low risk for him.

Have you been checked for vit B12 (or other vitamin) deficiency and/or coeliac? Ask your doctor for a blood test if not - I get terrible ulcers if I become malnourished.

Mouth ulcers can also be a sign of lupus so if you have any other symptoms ask your GP for an ANA screen with your bloods.

Hope you feel better soon

I had a CBC last Year-would that include B12?
Anyway I am actually going to the Doc for a over 40 health check next week and having bloods so will ask when I am there.

I don't think so as B12 isn't a regular screen, so it is often missed. Could be wrong thiugh! No harm in asking your GP for some routine tests to ease your mind. Hopefully it will be something with an easy fix for you x

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with mouth ulcers! I’m not sure if it would agree with your IBS but try fresh pineapple. That always helps me when I get a sore bit, and apparently it’s used a lot in hospitals when patients who are tube fed get sores in they’re mouths.. worth a try and hope you feel better soon.
