I've been getting red, dry and irritated skin all over my face, neck and now my eye lids. I should have taken a photo of both eyes for contrast but in the pic the eyelid is also swollen. I can't put on any of my usual creams on as skin flares up. Some days better than others and been going on for about a month. Never had any skin allergies before and can normally put anything on my face.

Went to docs, who was a bit baffled but thought it was an allergic reaction. I was already taking hayfever tablets and he prescribed stronger ones. Been taking them for a week now and it's made no difference. Anyone else had similar, any idea what is going on with my skin??

Picture of the eye doesn't look anywhere near as bad in the photo. The entire eyelid is red and eyelid is swollen, honest.

It looks like eczema . Have you had it before?

cakedup · 08/05/2018 11:21

No never had eczema before. Is it possible to only get it on my face?

Quite possible. I had really nasty eczema on mine for 10 years. And practically nowhere else. You need to ask your GP for a referral to a dermo as some treatment can only be from them- creams for the face.
You could try using things from the Eucerin range (in Boots) that are for eczema. Stop using anything with perfume in for a start.

How odd if it's eczema, never had it in my life before. Been using ds' eczema emollient as anything else stings. If it's eczema then surely gp will prescribe cream without referring me? Never once got referred for ds. Also, is it possible that eczema would make my eyelid swollen?

I used to have this type of reaction to a lot of eye make up especially Boots No 7 range eyeshadow and mascara years ago. Also many other kinds of makeup.

Also had similar reaction on face after applying Olay moisturiser.
It looked and felt like I had been burned.

It only stopped when I stopped wearing makeup altogether years ago.

butterfly56 was this make up you'd used for years with no problems? I don't wear eyeshadow but do use mascara and eyeliner.

If you take a photo with the flash on it will show it better.

cakedup · 09/05/2018 18:50

Thanks for the tip Raven88 - because this skin condition comes and goes it's useful for me to take a pic to show my GP.

The swollen eye I would have said was possibly hay fever and with the rash makes me think maybe an allergy to grass / pollen. Have you mowed the lawn or done gardening recently?

My DD had swollen eyes and skin issues and we went to allergy testing eventually and it was grass pollen that was the culprit.

It's such a horrid thing and she hated it esp as a teen so hates being stared at Sad

Hi cakedup
The allergic reaction was immediate for me as in within a couple of hours, especially the Olay one which burnt straight away and looked like a chemical peel for weeks!!
Sometimes I could get away with wearing a small amount of foundation but as soon as I put on mascara then eyes puffed up and blood shot, watering.
Tried so many combinations over the years but always had problems with allergy.
I did have the same reaction to certain soaps as well.
So I have only used water on my face for years.
