Any dentists about who can help?
I had a checkup at the dentist three weeks ago. She said my gums were in great shape, that I was doing an excellent job with tepe brushes, and after doing the poking test thing, she recorded a score of two.
Last week I had an appointment at the maxillo facial department at the hospital because of an odd shadow which showed on an x-ray round one tooth. The hospital’s x-ray was totally clear (it was a fancy 360 degree machine as opposed to the bite ones at my own surgery) but when he examined the tooth in question he said I had severe gum disease round it and a pocket of 6mm.
How can this have popped up in three weeks? Has my dentist not checked properly? The tooth is the upper front one, and has had gum recession for years, apparently caused by over-brushing. I switched to an electric brush on her advice, and have never been told I have any gum issues in subsequent checkups. (I go religiously every six months.)
I’m due back at my own dentist next week to get a crown fitted, so will ask her then, but I am freaking out in the meantime. Can anyone help?
