Sudden breast pain

I'm 35, no kids, no family history of breast problems as far as I'm aware.

Literally overnight (Thursday into Friday and carried on since then) I have a pain in my left breast, it's like a throbbing/heavy pain (behind my nipple and out toward the outer side in a line) that feels like I've been punched.
There's no marking to the skin, no visible changes and no lumps/bumps that I can feel and believe me I've been checking!
My period is due next week so both breasts are feeling a bit tender, as is usual for me, but this one is just much more sore than normal and it just constantly niggling.

Should I be worried do you think?
Does this warrant a GP appointment or should I wait and see if it goes after my period is finished?

Hi. First thing is could you have pulled a muscle? I injured a muscle there and it was awful.

If not then I would wait until after period if you’re due if you can’t feel or see anything abnormal. The doctor would put it down to menstrual cycle.

ALso pain isn’t generally an indicator of anything sinister either.

Thank you, I'll wait it out and see what happen in a couple of weeks.

I can't recall doing anything untoward however I have started up running again now I think of it so the two might be related. Hopefully it goes as quickly as it came and I can stop stressing myself out.

I had this at Christmas. I wasn’t feeeling well at the time, thought I had a cold but it turned out to be flu and walking pneumonia so I guess the breast pain was linked. Probably coughing too much. I also had toothache but I think it was actually just sinus pain.

ChesterFuckingDraws · 06/05/2018 04:21

I hope you're all better now @Paddingtonthebear
I feel totally fine in myself just this nagging pain. I'll
Just keep an eye on it and hope it leaves if it's own accord

I’m in the same position. Had excruciating breast pain in November last year. Went to gp. He called me back in a week later and examined me. Still there but not able to pinpoint the actual pain
Just hurt! If I brushed crumbs off my boob, the pain was severe. But no actual painful area
He couldn’t feel or see anything out of the ordinary so advised me to go through a period and see
Pain went. All good.
And then it started again this week
I’m due on but it’s Not pre period tenderness. It’s savage sharp pain
I’m back to the gp Wednesday and I’m hoping to be sent for some sort of scan

I tripped yesterday and just the jolt of the tripping took my breath away

Hope yours settles but keep note of your cycle

ChesterFuckingDraws · 06/05/2018 13:19

@QOD I hope you get some answers.
This isn't a sharp pain unless knocked just a constant throbbing pain, feels like it should be hot to the touch today but isn't, very strange.
Just ordering some new bras to see if that helps any
I'll keep an eye on it just hope it goes away, fast

I went for a diagnostic mammogram for stabbing breast pain. Driving the car over a bump or pothole was agony and I was wearing two sports bras at once to keep everything immobile. Nothing was found and I was told that it is very common, that caffeine is thought to be a trigger for some people and evening primrose oil may be helpful.

It isn't usually associated with cancer (most cancerous growths are painless) but there are exceptions like inflammatory bc. My mum had nipple pain caused by a cancerous tumour, but she also had other signs (lump, distorted nipple). On its own with no other symptoms it's unikely to be anything serious. Pretty annoying though.

The two bras thing might help if you're wanting to run.

ChesterFuckingDraws · 06/05/2018 14:43

@arousingcheer glad to hear nothing was found. Yes, definitely annoying, I'll try cutting out caffeine, I'm a bit of a caffeine fiend so cutting out. Down! will have other benefits.
I'm using it as an excuse not to run at all but I'll try the 2bras and see if that makes a difference.
