Dry socket

Help! Cracked a back molar last week and on Friday the emergency dentist extracted it. A lot more pain than I expected so I went back yesterday and I was told it’s a dry socket, they cleaned it and packed it and told me if it’s no better in 3 or 4 days to come back to have it cleaned out again.

After about 1/2 hour it calmed down and was less painful for a few hours but then the packing fell out.

Today is the worst it’s been so far! I’ve had a go at diy dentistry by filling the hole with cotton wool soaked in salt water but I’m desperate, anyone got any ideas to calm it down?

paracetamol or ibuprofen. rinse after food with warm salt water. also at night and when you wake up. try not to suck. this is what causes dry socket. by sucking the blood clot out. like sucking on a straw or smoking.

keep your mouth clean, and take tablets for the pain. it should calm down in the next few days. it usually gets worse to get better.

my nans has just got better. she had hers removed about 3 weeks ago and she dosent form blood clots. so she got it bad. but smokes like 20 a day so it's her own fault and it's just got better now.

good luck.

if they dint work try to get to a pharmacy to get some OTC strong painkillers. codeine? that will work of paracetomal isn't. it will help you sleep too.

there's nothing worse than tooth pain. I'm with you atm. been going through a course since January getting all my teeth fixed. after 1 extraction 2 fillings and 2 RC,they're still not right :(

Ouch ! Don't understand why they don't treat everyone to prevent dry socket. It's just iodine soaked gauze packing.

It's agony but hopefully it will start to ease soon

Dry socket is one of the most painful ailment. That's why dentist insist on not disturbing the area after the extraction. I dislodge it with my tongue at the time, couldn't help it. I paid for it for a few days. Nothing to do but the strongest pain killers. It will go away.
