Hot, swollen and stiff...

I was weeding for a couple of hours (on a kneeler) yesterday, came in for lunch and noticed front of knee felt a tiny bit sore. It was a bit red and starting to swell. Since then it has got bigger and bigger and the swelling now extends from a couple of inches above knee to mid-calf. It is also quite hot. GP and nurse saw it at midday and it was diagnosed as prepatellar bursitis. I’m just wondering if such extensive swelling would be normal.

I would be very grateful to hear from anyone with experience of ppb - or anyone with an opinion!

Thanks in advance

Blimey, I wondered what this thread was about, then!

Yes! My Ds got this when he weeded between the block paving on my large drive, on his hands and knees.
I've never seen anything like the swelling, his knees were huge, wobbling and looked full of water.
Scarey and painful, but they did go down and he's had no long term problems with it.
Get well soon.Flowers

Thank you both for your messages, esp the reassurance Honky! Glad to hear your ds hasn’t had a recurrence.

Have a read about pre-patella & patella bursitis, the NHS has a good website to start with

Do you have a temp? I think this is when you have to be worried about cellulitis

Thanks again everyone for taking the time to reply. I’ve read quite a bit about bursitis but was just wondering if it’s normal to have SO much swelling - but in HonkyWonk’s experience it is. The swelling is has gone down a bit today but has spread further down my leg. I feel fine but am just surprised by the new and exciting ways my body finds to let me down!

Oh tell me about it mrsclooney!
I've trapped a nerve in my back, just simply getting something from a bottom shelf in the kitchen. Now got pain radiating from lower back, to the front of my thigh.
Oh joy!!!!!!!!!

Not sure what your use of the word 'normal' means in these circs! Get well soon.
